A Taxing Answer

Internet merchants all over America, that is, those who sell things over the internet, are begging the Congress of the United States not to institute a sales tax. They say that it will destroy the advantage they, alone, have developed over the box stores.

From the dot-com point of view, they are the ones who took the chances. They braved the horrors of the dot-com bust, while the brick-and-mortars (box stores) sat back and let them sink or swim. Now that the dot-coms are beating the pants off of the box stores, the boxes are whining they are at a disadvantage.

From the Box Store point of view, they are the ones who had to guess who would be buying what and buy a few so that people who came to the store could see them. If people wanted them, they had to make sure they could get them in numbers equal to the numbers desired, etc.. the whole just-in-time evolution thing.

Over all of this was the predatory government who needed a way to pay for their dreadful mistakes in social engineering and occasional positive accidents in infrastructure creation and education - hence the sales tax. Unfortunately, government is stupid and cumbersome and most awfully incapable of thinking ahead, or they would have figured out how to tax internet commerce already in a way that didn't hurt anybody too badly.

Now, it seems, the Box Stores, in their desperation, have joined with the states, who are equally desperate, in an effort to tax the dot-coms into subservience. They want Congress to pass a bill which will force the Dot-coms to collect a state tax from anyone buying a product from the dot-com based on the state the buyer is IN as they buy the article. Unfortunately (again) Congress has hit more than one unconstitutional snag, and they don't even know it.

Technically, the internet "store" resides in an actual place, ie., in an actual State. If you buy from a catalogue, or buy over the phone, you may wind up paying a sales tax for the state in which the phone answerer or catalog fulfillment person resides, but you do NOT have to pay a state sales tax where YOU live. It's the same principle when you buy something over the internet, but the poor dumb Congress doesn't seem to understand that.

The operating principle is that Congress CANNOT compel a person in one state to collect taxes for another state. It's the same principle which our founding fathers set up, using the same reasoning that keeps the federal government from taxing a state's municipal bonds. They can't do it, and another state can't do it, and the federal government can't command a person in another state to do it for another state's taxes. It really is that simple.

Of course, a State in which the company exists CAN demand that they charge a tax on items sold, but only for THAT State. Now, if that State wants to be nice, and give some of that revenue away to another state, but, well, that's another matter, and probably, a source of riots and revolution and State Representatives being cooked over slow fires. But the bottom line is that they can't be commanded to do anything by the Feds or another state.

Don't get me wrong, Congress can pass any law they like. It just won't hold up in the Supreme Court. As long as the States are several, they will be separate, and that includes taxing authority. And it doesn't matter how greedy the states get.

But what if the Federals use their taxing authority, and split the money up among the states? You know, revenue sharing. That's a bit more thorny, but some Constitutional scholars don't think that would work either, because the Federal government would have to admit that they are doing it for state taxation purposes and that would put us all back in the problematic same barrel, AND, it would cost even more, because the states COULDN'T do the dividing, forcing the Feds to do it at a much inflated cost. Also, if the States allow that, then the Feds could argue that the States could be forced to allow taxation of Municipal bonds along the same lines, not to mention a great big hole in the 9th and 10th amendment nullification arguments.

Then again, why would logic make any difference to a Federal government which ignores its sacred federal oath to uphold, protect, and defend the Constitution, or any state which is on the verge of bankruptcy thanks to profligate spending on social engineering programs?

A source at the CIA has confirmed what we had reported to you, earlier - that they had reported the older, now-dead Tamerlan Tsarnaev (Tamepлaн Царнаев) to the FBI a YEAR before the Bombing, and they HAD told Homeland Security, which, of course, means Big Sis lied to Congress. THAT's what difference it makes.

Good Day for Big Sis Watching on Monday

For once, other people are doing my work for me. I will wait to comment, until all the craziness is said and done, Monday. I will say, however, that if everything gets out as it should, the White House will look like a cat in a litter box, by Monday night.

It does seem, though, that the dumber our immigration execution gets, the hornier the politicians are to pass something that will have no real effect on illegal immigration.

Let's be happy for the people of Boston. One cowardly villain is dead, his brother under arrest, headed for execution for mass murder. Congratuate the Boston police. Congratulate the special units of the FBI. But do not kid yourself - we have yet another failure of the Obama administration on the terror front, the tenth, so far since 2009.

The FBI was WARNED about Tamerlan, the elder brother, in 2010! An Islamic Chechnyan rebel, radicalized into a fundamentalist Islamicist. We gave both him and his brother asylum. We gave them welfare. We gave them the benefit of a ridiculously liberal immigration policy.

And now it's time to question every single one of those policies. THAT could well be why the White House is meddling so heavily in all this business. Oh, he KNOWS how to get elected. He just doesn't know how to be a trusted American leader.
 

The White House Needs To Butt Out

I'm confused. The FBI says that they have very clear pictures of the two people whom they say are suspects in the Boston bombing, Monday, but they give the people of America shoddy youtube.com pics. They say they have clear video of one of the suspects dropping a backpack off in the place where the bomb went off, but all we get to see are poorly focused 2-frame-per-second store footage of the two you couldn't convict an elephant with. (We're not bothering to show them.)

These are not the actions of the FBI I have come to know and respect. If they need our help, why don't they release the pictures that are easier to see? Why are we not getting to see all the videos they have? And why has it taken this long to get this organized? There are other complications, but I'll talk about them when I know more.

My guess is that this is what you get with a federal operation when there is too much White House control. I'm betting that if Justice left the FBI alone, they might have solved this thing already. But this is a terror attack and that means there is Pennsylvania Avenue ego on the line, which also means that there is an awesome burden on the FBI. Perhaps, too awesome for the country to bear.

UPDATE: This morning, we all awoke to discover that the two are Musilim northern Chechnyan (or Southern Russian from the Dagestani region, depending on whether your cousin was employed by the old KGB) brothers and one of them is dead and that they were "good" kids (although, in über-liberal, Sanctuary Boston, "good" could mean "I hate the Constitution and America and Moses, but not necessarily in that order, and not for any real reason.") It is noteworthy, however, that the Boston Police force acted instantly to trap the first brother, once the pictures were finally released by the FBI.

But it is still obvious that the White House is running the show - ie., no questions about procedure, which could easily be answered without hampering the search, or questions about a third person which curiously keep popping up. The FBI, anticipating such criticisms are fronting the idea that the 19 year old might be listening, so they don't want to say too much, which is ridiculous. In Boston, one can monitor the police, FBI, TV, or Cable from a cell phone. No, the White House Ego rests heavily upon the operation; of that there is no doubt.

Even if the Boston Bomber is the most Caucasian person in American history and claims to be a Red-Neck, Bible-Believing, Born-Again, TEA-Partying, Republican, he or they should be put to death. He isn't any of those things. He is a terrorist and an American-hating C R A Z Y jackass. And that is all he is and ever will be. By definition, he cannot be any of those good things, anyway, regardless of what he says. Well, maybe he's been co-opted by the Muslim Brotherhood, but in any case, we need to treat him like the terrorist he is, and EXECUTE HIM.

The President's victims flew home, and reality settled over DC today. The Senate proposed seven amendments to restrict Americans' second amendment rights, none of which would have prevented the Sandy Hook massacre from happening. All, except one, were defeated by a majority vote. That one was almost defeated by a majority, not a minority, as the President lied it did.

Several famous theologians, C.S. Lewis among them, have noted that before the gates of heaven, you must apologize and make amends to the people to whom you have lied and to whom you have done wrong. This is why so many people think that politicians will go to hell. They will never be able to get through the chore.

In any case, Americans are still free to protect themselves in a meaningful way, and the Progressives are left with an empty knowing that America doesn't like what they stand for on this issue. More votes tomorrow. Let's hope freedom rings again, Thursday.. and we'll talk about Jenny and the GOP, tomorrow.
 

Stadia Are Good for Safe Sports

Do not let the Letter Loon take your attention from the real investigation of the Boston Bombers - the ricin wasn't even weaponized. There are so many questions and so many non-answer answers that I'm going to wait until there are some arrests before ai say anything except for this: My source in the CIA says that there is tremendous pressure - as much pressure as was exerted during the Benghazi investigations - on people to clam up. That's all I'm going to say about that, right now.

I WILL say, however, that my first thoughts were, when listening to the safety experts talking about the marathon, this is why the Greeks and Romans built stadia. They were easy to keep unwanted people out of. The same limited exits are also limited entrances, where people were frisked, and sometimes beaten up, for lack of money or identification. I remember attending a Gamecock football game after 9/11 and thinking what a marvelous invention a stadium was.

No system is perfect, but sometimes the old ideas are the best ideas. Of course, a marathon IS the distance run by Pheidippides between Marathon and Athens (approx 25mi) in ancient Greece and HAS to be run outside. Next year, hopefully, the crowd will remember it's POST 9/11.. still, and be more wary of strangers.

For most of us, the silver market opens again tomorrow morning.

If you've been looking for a chance to get into precious metals, this is it. With the stock market volume getting ridiculously thin, whatever direction it goes in is completely whim. In the end, some kind of real product that has actual value - and that's not a piece of paper with presidents on it - is going to be worth something. Not even gold, which is too volatile and is too easy to confiscate, is a good idea, which is why it's falling much faster than silver.

Still, silver is lower than it's been in a few years, and it's priced at panic lows, at that - a steal, if you can get it this low. With government morons moving the market, right now, it could go even lower. I can't tell you what to do, but I'm selling my gold and buying silver all the way down. I capture losses for next tax season and lock in gains for the stagflation that must come.

If I can find real coinage, so much the better. If I can't, I'll buy the coin-like pure silver rounds. Either way, with the proper marks, it will be fungible. Bursting bubbles are always good for people who didn't get caught.

Why Your Local News Isn't Telling You How Bad Obamacare Is

1. They really don't know any better.
   Understand that local TV news is a dying business with limited budgets. As more and more people watch content on the internet via computers and smart devices, that means local content providers are becoming more numerous, creating fewer tv viewers. Fewer viewers mean less sales. Less sales mean smaller news staff, which means more dependency on their national news providers. CNN and CBS belong to the same company, and NBC and MSNBC are in the same boat, and ABC is the other MSM (mainstream medium). They have ALL been loaned or given money or been co-opted by the Obama administration in one way or the other. Since the national news sources give the local affiliates their Obamacare stories, how can a small group of uninformed reporters know any different.

2. They're too busy to know any better.
   Local radio news is a headline affair with even fewer resources which relies on the Associated Press and a national radio news partner. ABC radio news is just as biased toward the left as their tv brethren. The AP is now run by a devout, declared lefty. So that leaves Fox News which, unfortunately, IS balanced. That means, on a national level, those who watch tv or listen to the radio hear a conservative slant about 1/6th of the time. But, locally, in private the Fox affiliates will tell you they are afraid of being called racist, having been subtly bullied by their peers who have been bullied by their national news outlets.

3. Most local reporters cannot count.
   I am not trying to be mean. I am simply stating a fact. Their mommas and their college advisors assured them that there was no math in reporter school. And they were right. Now that we have a complete system failure in Obamacare, wherein doctors will have to break the law in order to treat you properly, your insurance has already doubled and may double again next year, and businesses are having to go out of businesses - plus, the legislation, itself, is over 2700 pages long and will be 18,000 pages after full implementation by unelected bureaucrats. Local reporters are missing the local angles because they don't see the math.

4. Some local reporters are just born-again Marxists.
   Of course, some reporters and producers are graduates of leftist hate groups ironically called "journalism schools." Not all. But some. On the other hand, you would be surprised how many professors in this state are actually conservative capitalists. Not all. But you would be surprised. Of course they have to keep their ideas to themselves, because liberals really, my-hand-to-God, cannot abide meaningful, fact-filled criticism.

I only have two thousand readers; readers who are attractive, aspiring to freedom and as much wealth as you can legally achieve. If you want your friends or children to know what you know, you need to tell them this stuff, or tell them to read this news blog or news blogs like this one. Because they won't hear it on local tv.
 

The Man Who Made Robin Williams Possible is Dead.

He was funny. He was crazy. He was manic. He was funnier than any other living human being. Now, he belongs to the ages. Jonathan Winters is dead, and with him dies Maude Frickert, Thurlough Weed, and a host insane, deeply funny characters, all of whom were the basis for modern-day improvisational theatre, and mostly, the fortune and fame of Robin Williams.

And you can be sure that, without any gall or phoniness, Williams will miss Winters more than his family or his own life. If you understand Williams and Winters, you'll understand this is not an unkind statement about either their families, their lives, or themselves - it's simply that the two are true forces of nature. And improv is the very force that makes comedy funny - the surprise after the buildup - the whizz-whistle in the punchline.

Now, we have to ask ourselves, "Who is next?" Thatcher is dead. Winters is Dead. Great tragedies come in threes. We've had a great political death and a great comedic death. After comedy and politics, what is there left?.. but wait.. it's already happened.. a critic.. and that's a real improv funny - one that each of the three giants would appreciate.

I guess by now, you have heard of the death of Roger Ebert. I have written earlier of his remarkable writing ability and why he was the very best of movie reviewers, so I'm not going to flog that donkey, again. I just want to say the following:

There is no political point of view on which I did not disagree with Roger; and there was no movie review on which I did not agree. He was the epitome of the existential film reviewer. There was not one hint of Horace, or any other flake with a manifesto, about him - he was purely Aristotle in his observations.

But like so many people living in the sewer we call Chicago, he saw his actual world through an orange clockwork, rather than an amber wave - more's the pity. Nevertheless, Roger is gone and it will be some time before any large print organization will have the mammalian reproductive appendages to hire his like, and the rest of us will have to stumble into darkened theatres, unaided by his prescience.

Dangit. I won't ever miss his politics. But I surely as hell will miss him and his words about movies.

For the rest of us, we know that it was she, Ronald Reagan, and Pope John Paul II who convinced Premier Gorbachev of the old Soviet Union to give it up - which he did. More Unintended Consequences of "Quantitative Easing"

It may be that by the time you get up in the morning and read this, the only "people" in the American Stock Market will be machines, trading government tax money, and whatever "little people" money has still been persuaded to stay - for the most part. Almost every source I have is saying that the billionaires are gone from the stock market. If this is true, then, what was left of their money must have exited the market in small bits, over the weekend, through foreign exchanges.

Look, Ma, no volume!

Have they have seen the future and it isn't in America - for them? Do they think the Administration and all the President's men will cover for them by trying to flood the market with phantom trades for a while, as they've done since 2009? Surely, they must know, though, that this maneuver has happened too often, and that whether it succeeds or not, phantom trading will strain money relationships across the globe as financial patience runs out.

Remember, we told you about what happens when you print too much paper money - quantitative easing. So far, phantom trading has done very well on phantom money. But that may be ending. Either way this plays out on Monday, permanent commodities like oil, metals, and land are looking better and better. If they can still buy them with dollars, all the better. The only question will be, "How many more dollars will it take?"

Why is all this happening, you may ask? Because in any system that works there must be either trust or a system that can work without it. Obama's system is fascism - or buddy capitalism, if you will. Honesty simply has no part in Obama, and fascism doesn't work without trust. Capitalism doesn't need trust to work, because each person is responsible for him or herself, and you don't print crap and call it money.
 

The Morality of Executing Your Municipal Authorities

City Councils, Mayors, County Councils, Council Presidents, County Administrators - ALL - should be subject to summary execution on forfeit of their municipal bonds, regardless of the reason of that forfeiture.

Obviously, such a law is not on the books, but it should be. The wickedness of knowingly selling risky bonds as secure investments, often to unsuspecting investors is beyond criminal. Bonds are often where the real little old ladies, living in doily-covered living rooms, place their life savings. These kinds of investments are supposed to be as safe as such things can be, which is pretty safe. Unlike stocks, which can leave an investor pantsless, when bonds go boom, the bondholders get first claims rights.

But now, thanks to unconstitutional negotiations by municipal authorities, conservative municipal bond buyers are being snookered into selling bonds with little or no security attached to them. That Triple B rating may actually be a C or Junk status bond. That Triple A may actually be a Triple B. No matter how high up the rate reviewers are, their reviews are becoming meaningless as we see rejection after rejection of their ratings by the real market and real circumstances.

This is not to say that the reviewers are dishonest, but rather, that they are probably being misled, in most cases: misled by dishonest municipalities and dishonest counties. In the case of counties and cities in California and Illinois, getting ready to go belly-up, Unions would get paid before ANY bondholdholder, as has already happened in Stockton, California. The Unions are saying that they are only hurting the big wall-streeters, but the fact is that the big wall-streeters won't be hurt at all - they only bundle the bonds to be sold to everyday people as a SECURE investment. Talk about irony!

If the current administration wanted to help the middle class, it would prosecute these progressive municipal administrations for their actions to see that what assets these communities had left, and then make sure those assets were dispersed among them. But this administration owes its gonads to the nations Unions - they helped them cheat in the last election, and know where the bodies are buried. The chances of administration help to the middle class are none.

This is why there should be a law, promoting the execution of all municipal leaders whose bonds default without fungible assets backing them. It would a truly moral answer to immoral polity

Well, The Community Oncology Alliance, for one. Doctors are refusing patients because of the stupid Obamacare overeach, not the sequester.

Federal Housing, for another. The so called "housing boom" being reported the last two weeks, is being caused by pressure from below - Obama is pressuring banks to take bad loans again. That adds upward pressure on housing prices but creates a Barney Frank Bubble. AGAIN! Guess who's going to have to bail out the banks, AGAIN?

AND, OF COURSE, THE ADMINISTRATION. The unemployment numbers have been down three full months in a row, proving stagflation is here, but they have to "study the numbers."

Was Obama lying about all those automatic weapons at the school killing? Really? And then there's the insurance thing, but that's for later.
 

Episcopal Prelates Don't Know Shinola Difference

The Not-so Reverend Luis Leon, Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, DC, has proven, once again, that graduates from Virginia Seminary don't know shite from Shinola. He has also proven that Liberals and Progressives can only think in stereotypes. But more than any of this, he has proven that the dying Episcopal Church has lost its way and doesn't know where to find it.

When he flushed from the pulpit in front of his master, Obama, on Easter Sunday, and piled vile lie upon puss-filled lie saying that conservatives, who are actually desperately trying to save this nation from cruel profligacy and its inherent poverty, want to go back to slavery and bully black people to sit in the back of the bus as in the bad old days, it almost seemed as if he was kidding. But, no. The ever ignorant and ill prepared Leon actually spouted talking points from Louis Freeh and delivered more of a rah rah pom pom cheerleader rage than a sermon on the joy and majesty of Jesus' resurrection

Leon's words were plain and simply offensive to any thinking person. Leon's words were so cowardly and fully fescennine, his thoughts so clouded in self-immolation, that that he may not have realized that they were controlled by another master, some master more vertically challenged. Anyway, his ridiculous rage has pushed the final camel into the tent. (I TOLD you our distaste for these clowns wasn't about Gays.)

And... I'm OUTTA THERE!!! No more Episcopal Church for Me - too many Stoopid, Southern & Conservative-Hatin' Liberals..Next stop either Anglican, Southern Cone, or Constantinople. Any takers? I'll keep you posted.
