Market Farces
The "pit" futures reporter for Fox Business News was ecstatic. The Oil futures market was
soaring. He said this was "a great sign of possible vitality in the markets - people think
the market may be coming back!" ..sigh..
Even people you trust in the media don't always get it right. The rest of us, you and me,
live on the edge of obliteration - some, a little further back from the edge. If our
income were jeopardized, for some reason, for three months, many of us would be
starving and homeless. People like the "pit" futures reporter don't understand that.
They also don't understand that the elements, which push us over that edge, are the price
of gasoline, the price of utilities, the price of groceries, and the price of medicine -
all of which are now unavoidably linked to the daily price of oil. The price of oil is
unavoidably linked to the value of the U.S. Dollar. The value of the U.S. Dollar is unavoidably
linked to the amount of U.S. Dollars in circulation and the power of the Country which
backs up the U.S. Dollar. This is why "Quantitative Easing" is such a very, very
bad idea, not to mention all the profligate spending in government from Downtown to D.C.!
Even if you believe that money is only "appreciation certificates," not backed by any
corporeal value, where there is too much of it circulating, it's value drops. And,
remember, the dollar is STILL linked to the price of gold, even though it's not supposed
to be - another downward pressure on the perceived value of the dollar.

Common Cents
Bad officiating is part of any game, and only cricket "judges" have instant overrule. With
that in mind, the retiring of ALL of the Big Ten Officials would be a terrific idea! Of course
the head doofus official would say they made the right calls - their part-time JOBS are at stake.
You can fight the media with their partisan game-calling - they really don't affect the
play on the field. But, you can't fight poor officiating. And, until the would-be officials
are given RIGOROUS psychological testing, college football will be at the
mercy of the media and the officials. (Besides, should a person with ANY alma mater
be allowed to officiate?) - Oh.. and the "chicken bowl-curse" is back.
