Are national Progressives going to hell?
Well . . . probably not. I say "probably," because I'm not God, and I'm not really sure. In fact, national Progressives should be very happy about the fact that I am not the Almighty. Because, if I were, I would strike every one who voted "no" in the House this morning DEAD. Except, maybe, my old friend James and my not-at-all friend John. Here are two, good, South Carolina people mumbling along behind the national party line.
Here's why - and let me say that Rush Limbaugh said this first. I usually think of this sort of thing first, but I don't have the platform he does. But he DID say this first. I would just apply it to US House Progs who voted against the Terri Schiavo bill: "They only care about people in the abstract."
If we were to believe the Progressives' argument, we shouldn't have the 1965 Civil Rights act. They used EXACTLY the same justification as those who opposed the Brown v Topeka Bd. of education. WORD FOR WORD.
But, let's get some facts straight up front: The bill doesn't do anything to the constitution. It is so limited that I wish it were broader so as to include anyone who is being falsely manipulated by their spouses. I have also learned that Ms. Schiavo was kept from therapy for the past seven years. Her husband, WILL inherit her care fund when she dies - to say anything else (as the disgusting Jerry Nadler snidely intimated) is a lie. And there have been plenty of neurologists who think she IS responsive (so many, in fact, that it clearly makes the whole concept of her being a veggie a complete and utter farce.) And it's not like the congress doesn't do this nor has the constitutional ability to to this from time to time.
So, they really are talking about killing the poor woman. And we're really talking about thinking of real humans as theories, not people at all.
At this point, I can only parrot the wonderful words of Congressman Joe Schwartz, MD, (R) Michigan, who also is a surgeon of the head and neck places. So, instead of me parroting the man, why not listen and watch as he says his own words. We've gotten our software in for streaming video so it shouldn't take too long to load up!
Watch Congressman Joe Schwartz, MD.
