Columbia, SC - Lawrence Brooks Mauldin, MD., died peacefully in his sleep
Tuesday evening, February 3, 2009, at his home in Columbia.
Dr. Mauldin led a life if service to children with neurological illnesses, often foregoing
fees to destitute parents. He was considered by many to be one of the finest pediatric
neurologists in the Southeast, and was often called on as an authority in disabilities
of the brain.
He leaves behind a wife, Karen, three sons, Benjamin, Matthew, and Christopher,
grandchildren, and a host of friends.
Besides his consultations and practice, he taught as an Clinical Associate Professor
of Pediatrics at the University of South Carolina Medical College in Columbia.
He graduated M.U.S.C with honors and did his Neurological Residency at Washington
University Medical School where he also won a Fellowship. Dr. Mauldin was
Board Certified in Pediatrics with a Concurrent Certification in Psychiatry and
Neurology.
The family will receive visitors at Dunbar Funeral Home on Devine Street beginning
at Five PM on Friday Afternoon. The funeral will take place at St. Michael and
All Angels Episcopal Church on Trenholm Road at 3:00pm Saturday. For a complete
