A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Voting Booth..

(with apologies to Stephen Sondheim and Zero Mostel)

(South Carolina) - The theme song of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, says it best:

"Something familiar,
Something peculiar,
Something for everyone:
A comedy tonight!

Something appealing,
Something appalling,
Something for everyone:
A comedy tonight!

Nothing with kings, nothing with crowns;
Bring on the lovers, liars and clowns!

Old situations,
New complications,
Nothing portentous or polite;

Tragedy tomorrow,
Comedy tonight!

Something familiar, Something Peculiar:
James Carville "something appealing" and Paul Begala "something appalling" are officially signing on to the Clinton campaign staff. The correct word IS "officially," because, the sad fact is that the campaign has been following Carville's and Begala's orders for months.

Nothing portentous or polite:
My sources tell me that there will be no appreciable difference between Carville-Begala pre-New Hampshire and Carville-Begala post-New Hampshire. Things will just get incredibly meaner.

Old situations, New complications:
Republicans should welcome this, as it will tear asunder the fabric of the Progressiveic party the way it did in 1968. The Republicans could run a dancing bear this year and win.

Bring on the lovers, liars and clowns!-
That's not to say that Carville and Begala will not be as nasty as they possibly can. But that's all that's new about officially recognizing Carville and Begala are running the campaign.

Something for everyone:
So enjoy the fun and afterglow of the New Hampshire wins and losses. It's going to get a lot nastier, meaner, and partisan, not that any of this is bad - that's politics. We can only hope that the country doesn't wind up with the final lines:

"Tragedy tomorrow,
Comedy tonight!"
