GUEST EDITORIAL
(American) Express Lane to Education
July 25, 2007
(South Carolina) - We receive excellent letters from time to time about various subjects worth mentioning. This one comes from
Liza Jones from Greenville about a project she got involved in. Since it involves something you can help with, and since there really
isn't anyplace else in this publication where her story can go, we include it here.
Dear SwampfoxNews.com readers,
I work with DonorsChoose, an organization that allows citizens to donate to fund public school classroom needs online. DonorsChoose has been in South Carolina since 2005 (it launches nationwide this fall), and so far has generated more than $520,420 to benefit 51,420 students across the state.
I'm writing because DonorsChoose has made it to the Top 5 of the American Express Members Project, out of 7,000 entries.
This is huge because they're up against organizations like UNICEF, etc. who are much larger than them and have many more resources. No one thought they d get this far.
If they win they stand to win up to $5 million to go to public school projects -- including projects in South Carolina. Any one with an American Express credit card can log on and vote for DonorsChoose over the next two weeks I thought I d share with you in case you can pass this message along, either to your readers or your friends and family. Every vote counts!!
Here are the details on how people can vote:
Teachers Ask. You Choose. Students Learn. Go to - http://www.membersproject.com/Education/5630/ for more information.
If we win, all the award proceeds up to $5 million will go to classroom projects on our site. Hundreds of thousands of public school students stand to benefit.
We re in the final homestretch, and the outcome will likely be decided by fewer than a hundred votes.
On behalf of all the schoolchildren whom your vote will impact, thank you for helping at this critical moment!
Liza Jones is a South Carolinian by choice.
