Of Rats and Idealogues

July 3, 2006

Roger Dier of, yes, Petaluma, is an animal lover. He has recently been in the news for having about 1300 rats in his small house. He is also the perfect example of a Liberal.

Said Dier, "I couldn't stand [to feed the rat to his snake - the purpose for which the rat was purchased]. I took the rat out of the cage and got to know it."

        Right.

He says he fell in love with rats, after that, and called them "gentle, lovable and an endless source of entertainment."

        He bought four more.

According to published reports, eventually, animal control officers discovered more than 1,300 rats in Dier's small one-bedroom Petaluma apartment, after neighbors complained about the foul smell. He was cited for misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Dier, 67, who was highly educated, said, "depression, loneliness, denial and a recent bout of flu and bronchitis kept him from maintaining control. I did not set out to do this," he told one reporter. " But "it was not all my fault," he added. "It was this force of nature that overwhelmed me." He was also buying upwards of 250 pounds of rat food a week.

        Right.

Can anyone guess which way this is going? . . please let's not see the same hands, again.

    1. Feel-good feelings
    2. Good Intentions
    3. Failure to plan ahead
    4. Misunderstanding of natural science
    5. Faulty logic
    6. Disasterous result
The "Progressive," né Liberal, perpetual progression..

And after all of that, all the man had for his efforts were a a citation for breaking the the law, lot of unhappy neighbors, and a pile of rat crap.

        Right.

OK, You say, but what about Idealogue Conservatives? Pluralists? Libertarians?

Good point. Any point of view that creates this progression is worthy of avoidance. My Conservative friends may disagree, but it can be justly argued that the only reason certain programs are currently working, is because they are being run by conservatives. Eventually, they will be run by someone who does not understand the non-written parts. Then, it WILL crash and burn.

As you go about your Fourth of July holiday, for whose freedom so many have died, ask yourself about the other intentions of Idealogues and what results they may have for your future. And mine.
