Let's get the Progressives out of the way up front:
Of all the Progressives who are running in primaries, I'm endorsing Harry Ott and Phil Leventis for Statehouse races.
Why? They are unquestionably honorable and honest people. We don't always agree with their ideals and motives, but
they always have reasons. Those reasons don't involve the large transfers of monies for personal gain for doing something,
either. They may involve the large transfers of monies, but it's not to pad their pockets.
Now for the Republicans.
If you're not running against Phil or Harry, then we have an opinion. Unfortunately, time and money prohibits me from going into Statehouse race primaries in detail, except to say that if you don't vote for Glen McConnell, David Thomas, and Wallace Scarborough, you're just too dumb to vote, and you should spend the next few months on your knees begging for forgiveness for your genetic imbalance.
The statewide races are another set of varmints, altogether...
Governor: I'll take the guy with the MD at the end of his name. It's not that I don't like our current figurehead,
but he's had his chance. He has some great ideas, but in politics you have to occasionally play nice, and he gets a "U"
in "works well with others." Doc Lovelace will do better.
Lt. Drag Strip Racer: Gimme Jack Bauer every time. Carroll's son is an honorable guy, but he needs to be at least a state senator for a while first. None of the other choices have the energy that Andre has. Let's not forget all the work with the elderly he's done. He's not ready for Governor yet, but he will be in four or eight years. Let's give him a break.
Superintendent of Education: You can vote for Floyd if you want something like change. But she's not radically different enough for me. I'd like to see her go into office with an AK-47c and clean house. Unfortunately, she is far more Christian
than I am and refuses to do murder. In any case, she knows how to play fair and is a better choice if you want to see better, more accountable, public education.
Treasurer: Thomas Ravenel. I'd like to call him Tom or Tommy, but he hates that. Other than that, though, he will make the best money-man for the state. Greg is a nice guy and is very savvy about money, too, but he doesn't know how to show people what he's doing in a simple way. That's unfortunate. Thomas, on the other hand, CAN. Not because the subject is simple, either. But because he can tell you in a simple explanation.
Ag Commissioner: Don't care.
Well, that's it for this primary. I'm going back to sit with my father. I'll tell you all about that, later.
