At the end, it was as if John Madden and Al Michaels could then say something nice about Pittsburgh.
All during the breath-holding excitement - one of the finest superbowls ever - They had acted
as if the Steelers were bumbling all over the field. And to be fair, even Madden didn't understand the
football version of rope-a-dope.
I can't be happier.
First of all, it happened in Detroit. A city run by big L Liberals which is in the deep, deep end of the pool.
Second, it was Pittsburg, I can remember weekends, when you weren't working your butt off as a fresheman
"Dramat" at Carnegie Tech, sitting at the top of the hill at Schendley Park, watching the old
stadium, and hearing the roars. It was truly, truly a night of smiles for all closet Steelers fans
like me. God, it was great!
Third, we all got to see the Bus say goodbye- "The Bus stops in Detroit." I truly hope Bettis coaches
some kind of team following this retirement. He would make a marvelous teacher-coach.
So, it's all over but the shouting, and the best men won. There'll be another year for the Seahawks -
count on it. But it won't be a bird year, this year. This is Bill Cowher's year - a Steelers' year -
a Super Bowl year!
