B.(C.)S. - SO. CAL NOT OK
or, SOOOOO MUCH HOT AIR.

January 5th, 2005 - 05:08Z

On my schedule, this is Tuesday night, so I've really only missed a day, but moving took a little more time than we all thought.

Just file this under "I want to heave."

I'm sitting here watching the BCS "Championship" game and I just want to point out that the TV announcers are so obviously embarrassed by the HORRIBLE result of the game, that they say, every minute or so, that they really think USC (another common sports error) really is the real No. One team. What an awful, awful joke.

But, you know tasteless and stupid TV sports announcers . . .

Now, I'm very happy for the Trojans. Any team who can name themselves after a prophylactic and make it stick should win something. But no matter how many TV sports announcers say it, Southern California simply is not National Champion.

Oklahoma isn't all that good. And if the coaches had not agreed to vote to mirror the outcome of the BCS, there would be another National Tie.

Maybe it was just too embarrassing. Everyone had said this WAS number one AND number two. And there were two Heisman winners on the field, except that one looked like Joe Dirt. That, alone, should show people how dumb the BCS is. Also how worthless the Heisman has become.

If someone were make the bad mistake of asking me who I think is the Number One Team in the Nation, they would hear that it's probably Utah with Auburn # 2. Then So. Cal. Then, who knows? Oklahoma won a couple of its games with bad officiating - or did you forget that? Frankly, Clemson is a finer team that Oklahoma. PAC-10 isn't a joke, but it's not that good. Some day, humble men and women will realize that they've been living a small fantasy. Until then, we have allowed them to create a lie and will have to live with it, until the BCS is properly repudiated.

The National Championship of So.Cal is similar to the sincerity of Hollywood. It has all the trappings and truth of a stage set. It has the pancake no. 3 face of a veteran actor. It's as real as their ownership of the title, "USC." And what truth there is, is lying in the guts of a computer, hiding from reality.

The nice thing about writing these articles is that between 26,000 and 40,000 people will read it between now and tomorrow night. But only about 7 or 8 of them actually have the ability to say anything anywhere it will make a difference - in the halls of sports.

Anyway, it's a good thing there's no BCS in College Basketball. Whoever is champion will be champion.
