(The Swamp) --

September 30, 2010
You may not know it, because it's a touchy subject, but Jim DeMint is under particularly heavy pressure. He has the audacity to do pretty much what he says he's going to do, and it has gotten him in trouble with the ruling class of both parties. One thing he has done, steadfastly, is support political candidates who are conservative. In the greasy hallows of Dee Cee, where immorality is a virtue, this puts him in the same category as a wicked stepchild.

Where power is God, power's desciples, such as John McCain, Barney Frank, and Chris Dodd, don't even talk to Jim. This does not mean DeMint is powerless. He has his own power base composed of people who share the same ideas of freedom. Conspicuously, NOT one of those people, is our other Senator, Lindsey Graham. In his race to carve out his own power base, he has avoided DeMint, calling those in the Tea Party movement, extreme and such.

Lindsey is on the losing side of this, and there are those who want to see him continue in the Republican Party. On the other hand, we do know that an opening has either been made or will be made by the Progressive party for him for 2012. Maybe that's what the Aztecs meant when they said the end of the world will come during that year.

It may not have occurred to anyone, but the reason we don't want what the Progressives have wrought is not because we don't want things to get fixed, but rather, because their fix only makes things not just bad, but, TRAGICALLY worse.

I have learned something very troubling. I hope it is not true. The good-ole-boys are trying to strangle upper education to death. We have heard from the budget and control board, and they are saying that state supported colleges will have to cut another 20%. This is so that we can continue to give public housing and other welfare programs more money.

This is unpardonable.

Granted, our state education system is a horror second only the tortured murder of labrador puppies, but our colleges are actually pretty good. To cut another 20% isn't about not having enough money. It's about destroying publically funded education.

I have already warned about this. Just because we have no candidates who understand the function of public education, does not mean that it is not a worthy undertaking. It just means the jerks in charge of it have gotten it all wrong. We can still save public education, but not in its current form, or with any of the people currently running for the office from EITHER party. They are all slaves to a system that must surely fail.

Meanwhile, our colleges are havens of good education and opportunity, but we treat them like the bastard read-headed stepchild.

The po' boy can't HEP IT! All Lindsey Graham wanted to do was make sure the port of Charleston got some money to dig their harbor deeper. All harbors silt down. It's just a fact of geology and weather. especially where the Ashley and Cooper Rivers come together to form the Atlantic Ocean. But instead of leading the fight to kill earmarks by stopping the Feds from stealing the profits of the SCSPA (the port authority), he went after a $400,000 earmark. He could have joined with Jim DeMint in stopping the federal theft, but, NOOOOOO.. he took the lazy man's way out and just kept chunkin' change.

Our bretheren in the Holy City have taken the bait, and now think that it's Jim's fault, instead of Lazy Boy's. Let's all send our friends in Charleston a happy email today.. somebody we know who can stand up and say.. let's KEEP our money in Charleston. Let's tell the Feds we don't need to spend anymore of our tax money on Boston or San Francisco. They'd just waste it, anyway on union commercials to get their favorite socialist elected.

And after we do that, let's send Lindsey an email saying HE should get behind Jim rather than the other, good-ole-boy, way round.. Whataya say?

Read something today that really rang true. The article in the New York Post called Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,
"the loony strongman from Iran." I started thinking about that characterization and it dawned on me that, he's not loony at all. Not really. The article talks about secret meetings he held with the New Black Panther leaders and Calypso Looie Farrakhan of the Black Muslims, both leaders of militant Black hate groups.

I got to thinking that if I wanted to cause as many problems in the northern midwest as possible, what two groups would I call on? Those two. That's not loony. That's using your power-suasion. Considering he's operating almost completely without restraint in a country whose leadership has given him a green light, why wouldn't he?

Yes, it really is a game of "chicken." Our new best chums, the Chicoms have placed a sumptuous tariff on our chickens. In effect, this puts a bigger strain on smaller businesses who sell wholesale chickens to China, because they can't afford to take the hit to their reduced profit thanks to the tariff.

Why this new Chicom tariff which will kill more American jobs? Well, because of the misguided tariff our masters in government decided we should impose to protect more useless unions in non-productive or buggy-whip industries. It seems that the administration can't get anything right.

I'd like to blame the bad officiating on the Gamecock loss, but there were lousy calls on both sides which evened out. Nope. If there is a goat in the game, it's got to be the center. When your C can't deliver the ball to your QB, even if he is an All-American, he can't function properly.

Carolina has two half-quarterbacks. Both can be excellent, but, one isn't an all-American, and the other is still young. Nevertheless, they were good enough that USC should have won the Auburn game. But the Gamecock center, for whatever reason, centered the ball poorly, too many times. That put both QBs in the rough, too often. When combined with an efficient and vicious Auburn defense, it was just too much to bear.

But, I did see something, tonight, that I hadn't seen, before - a Carolina football team that did not give up. It was beautiful to see.

OK, they didn't win. But, tonight.. tonight, we got to see a new team. One that will win many games from here on out.

You probably don't care that South America is headed into the toilet, but they are and it will do us no good.
The latest disappointment of intellectual midgetism is the imminent election of Dilma Rousseff as their fearless leader.

Dilma Rousseff when she led a Chilean revolutionary group, in 1970.

She is an old-school Marxist who will bankrupt Brazil before their newly found oil runs out in about 150 years. And thanks to our Marxist-in-chief, our fuel prices will rise as Chilean oil prices go up.

You have to laugh at Sen. Harry Reid.
He actually thinks that people will turn against the Republicans over the Tax increase. What he doesn't realize - nor any Progressive - is that Conservatives and Republicans know that it's the Progressives who, by letting the Bush Tax Cuts expire, will actually be instituting the Obama Tax INCREASE.

Of course the Progressives are going to lie. Of course, they're going to try to confuse you and muddy the waters, so that the truth will be harder to discern. But (as they love to say) at the end of the day, the Progressives could have passed a continuation bill any time in the past 20 months and didn't. Ipso facto sinit nuto.

Speechless at Obama's wrongheadedness. The Autumnal equinox is a Jewish holiday - Sukkot - סֻכּוֹת - the Anglican "Feast of Booths." But the Israeli delegation to the UN used it as an excuse to avoid hearing the Current Resident Of the Whitehouse's half-truths and Peasant-Economy profession. The more that "gentleman" speaks, the less truth there seems to be. And the more rationalizing by the old media.

Liver is disgusting. I say this not because very few people know how to prepare liver - they don't - but because it is never fresh. It can't be. To serve liver fresh, especially beef or hog liver, it must be served within an hour of its retrieval from the beast. An hour.

Children know. Liver over an hour old is grainy and icky. Over a day old, it has started to putrify in a way muscle and fat cannot. And, since liver is "high" almost from the get-go, and since the sensitivity of children is always more acute than that in adults, it is only natural that they dislike it.

On the other hand, liver, properly preserved and puréed, can be a delight, that even children will appreciate, on crackers and other starchy delivery systems. So, if you want your child to get his or her iron from liver, DON'T broil it or try to cover it with fried batter. Instead, serve your child paté de foi gras or de beof mince on a wheat thin. 10 years from now, when he or she is trying to impress that special someone in college, he or she can extol the virtues of paté, having enjoyed it as a child. The significant other will be amazed and, perhaps, even impressed with the broad range of gustatory experience of your offspring. Or, you could just force them to eat broiled liver and they will, justifiably, hate you for the rest of your life.

So whom do you trust? Rassmussen has all his Progressive clients ahead. Everybody else has the Progs losing viscously, like a slow leak of syrup. I think I'm gonna go with everybody else's polls. Rassmussen missed W's 2004 victory by as much as 10 points in some states. Gotta have those large samples of any statistical universe or Mr. Chaos Theory bites you in the behind! Sigma really does equal the sqroot of n. (Σ=√n)

September 22, 2010
Delaware's Christine O'Donnell is cool, sharp, deeply intelligent, and, yes, really cute. It's no wonder that she is scaring the pee out of the Progressive apparatchiks. No kidding. These are people I know and I usually get a call or so a week to gloat or beg. No calls at all. And remember, these people have a lot to lose.. stories of bleary eyes. Unhappy campers. Frankly, I thought her interview was so good on Sean AND, that it was repeated on Gretta.

September 21, 2010
If a forest hears a sound of a tree, does it make like Fall? well, it does in the Upstate. This is when western South Carolina puts on its best coat. Browns and deep reds. Yellows and golds. The occasional impatient dried green leaf - they're all gonna be here in about a week or so.

Now that the Autumnal Equinox has shifted the sun to the refrigerate position, the chilly winds will be blowin' soon enough. And I can't wait.

Jimmy Carter's Own People are telling on him. According to national talk giant, Neil Boortz, his sources in the Carter Organization told him that the former President was too scared to say that the Hugo Chavez recent re-election was a big fat fraud. His people say it was to keep Chavez's killing gangs from going on a rampage. Knowing Carter's past history, I'm guessing one of the people he was afraid of getting murdered was himself.

I don't Tweet. TWITTER is just one of those things that eat my time with no profitable outcome. My lack of faith in the social networking tool paid off, today: TWITTER got hacked, big time. From what I've been told, it wasn't that hard to do, either. My computer and phone remain pristine, and I have enough time to write this. :o)

September 20, 2010
Did you hear about the Teacher's Union in PA? Apparently, they're all on strike in the Pennsylvania burb of LEVITTOWN. So, here comes "Parents Night" and no teachers show up. Now, all the parents who previously thought teachers unions were a hot idea, are in a terrible tizzy. What were they thinking - that the tiger they were riding WOULDN'T eat them?

60 Minutes on CBS has completely gone off the deep end. We've known for years that Leslie Stahl is an emotion-soaked liberal. But to stipulate that Jimmy Carter wasn't as bad a president as history knows him to have been.. By his reduction of the military, creating a foreign policy of confusion and cowardice, by giving away the Panama Canal (which, by the way, IS being widened by the Chicoms), by establishing a worthless energy department, by inducing stagflation by his Roosevelt-type economics, he proved himself to be the second worst president in American History.

Something very interesting has happened. We are, apparently, the only state news aggregator left in South Carolina. Apparently, SCHotline tanked this past June. I guess they leave out a lot of websites. Still plenty of opinion blogs out there, though, and that's good. Yet, somehow, being the only state news aggregator kinda feels like running down the road, nekkid.

OK, Carolina doesn't have a quarterback. I suppose we should also mention that Auburn woke up in the second half and decided to play football, but Clemson did not go quietly into that good night. So you Tigers, don't you dare say anything about DABO. He's better than you deserve. Clemson plays football. And, please, at least Clemson has a QB and a decent play-by-play announcer. A sane person would say, at this point, that Carolina's got some reason to fear the remainder of their schedule.

You have to understand about Gamecock Radio.. Columbia, where the network originates, is a simply awful radio market. If you are reading this in Myrtle Beach or Greer or Charleston, or even Beaufort, you're probably wondering how, with all the political pull Columbia has, can this be? It's a very long and painful story, and it goes all the way back to the late 1940's when our Johnnies came marching home.

Too many people made too many bad decisions when it came to guessing who would take umbrage at what, and by the 1960's TV was queen sow and radio was the hind piglet. WIS was still playing big band music and the rockers were little WCOS and WNOK. By 1965, WQXL, owned by Billy Graham and his wife, beat the rockers in afternoon drive-time, but not even Joe Pinner the Record Spinner or Woody with the Goodies could keep it from being boring. It was just deadly. Is it any wonder that SC Educational Radio could embalm live maggots? The Old WIS was their model! The new Talk WIS has a new dial position - 1320 - and a great morning show AND Boortz, but the other talker, WVOC has an afternoon drive timer that makes John McCain look like a partisan conservative - INSERT BIG YAWN, HERE - But it's not his fault, WVOC is the OLD WIS.

Anyway, back in the old days, the only real excitement on radio was Jim Phillips on the Clemson Tiger Network and Bob Fulton as Mr. Gamecock Radio. God, they were good! They were exciting! They, alone, made radio worth listening to. And they were paid PEANUTS! They did it for the love of the game. At least that's what dad said about about his good friend, Bob. Jim was one of my few real friends, and I know how little Clemson paid him. They didn't deserve him, but he didn't care. He loved the Tigers, and the fans loved him. They should have.

Today, Clemson has a good play-by-play guy. Carolina doesn't, but don't worry, it doesn't matter, since he's in Columbia and they don't know any better. It's just the rest of us that have to bear with him.. meh..

Remember when we discovered "Taqiyya" (تقیه) and the Q'uran's command to lie to strangers? Well, you can see it, in the flesh at faithfulamerica .org.

If there's one thing this organization isn't, it's faithful to the concept of truth told to everybody, all the time. Yet, there it is, bold as brass, masquerading as a multi-faith organization dedicated to the truth. In reality, it's just a bunch of atheists and Muslims dedicated to doing a hack-job on Glenn Beck and anybody else who points out that Muslims must lie during Jihad (holy war).

Last week, I was approached by a gentleman who claimed to be a Muslim. He had read my discussion of Taqiyya and he said that all religions say it's ok to lie. I asked him to give me an example. He asked me if I knew that the Bible (he used the Arabian words "small scriptures," thinking I did not know the phrase) told several stories of people who lied. I asked him if he knew how those folks ended up? He didn't know they regretted their actions.

I asked him if he had ever heard of the command of Rabbi Jesus (they hate it when I call the Lord that) that we love one another. He asked had I heard that Mohammed had commanded to kill people who were not our neighbors (infidels). I asked him who was my neighbor? He asked how infidels could be my neighbor. I just pointed to this:

"A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead.

"A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.

"So too, a Lawyer (Levite), when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

"But an infidel (a Samaritan), as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him, and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man [who was naked, filthy, and bleeding] on his own donkey, took him to an inn, and took care of him [missing whatever meeting, or at the very least, keeping him from completing his journey as scheduled].

"The next day, he took out [enough money to pay double the going rate] two large silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper.

"'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'"

"Now," said Rabbi Jesus, "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man in the ditch?"

The lawyer replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Luke 10, vv25-27.

Judæism, Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Sikhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Hinduism, Sufi Islam, Amerindian Spiritism, Bahai, Shintoism, Babism, Rastafarianism, Neo Druidism, Paganism, and Existential Transcendentalism, all believe in truth telling, regardless. Even in Wicca, Voodoo, and certain other indigenous religions, you can tell a lie, but the evil it creates, eventually, is unmanageable and best avoided.

Think long and hard about the TWO religions that are NOT MENTIONED. One of them is Satanism.

Yet, even THEY are our neighbor. How, then, do we help them, being our neighbor? Like a wounded mule: Love the mule. Hate the wound. And don't stand where it can wound you.

Oh! One other thing.. Where the heck did the State get the money to waste on teaching teachers to shoot bows and arrows? Maybe we should ask WHY, in this recession, are they doing this? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, people ?!?

September 18, 2010
You may not have seen this, especially if you are still depending on one of the old broadcast network news programs. They chose to punt on one of
the worst cases of graft, yet, from Eleanor Holmes Norton. Breitbart even has tape of her trying to suck bribe money off of a lobbyist. He tells of getting an eMail from an NPR source, who informed him that having the damning evidence won't be enough to get her arrested in the questionable climate fomented by the hacks around the Current Resident Of the Whitehouse.

Were we laughing our behinds off, at the latest ditch-job by the AP? Will Nikki and her Progressive invested interest LAWYER opponent debate? Like it was Nikki Haley who was hiding. NOT!

It won't help Nikki at all, but he's such a lightweight, it can't hurt either. She offered FOUR. He tried to weasel out, but finally agreed to two. That should be a hoot. Can't wit for the LAWYER to start laying out the Progressive line. Well, that's what happens when you get a rich kid who inherited his money from an once-honorable family, and starts feeling all guilty about it.

Please, Mr. LAWYER, spare us from your rich-boy guilt and your silly party.

Many thanks to Neal Boortz,
who brought all our attention to the article by Dinesh D'Sousa (prn: duh-NEESH duh-SOO-zuh). And, ain't it de trut'!!

The Current Resident Of the Whitehouse is just exactly so - "a Kenyan Anti-Colonial" - like his dead father. Remember Obama's book, Dreams of My Father? It all fits now. D'Sousa has called the proverbial entrenching tool a shovel. Nailed it. He has set upon the seat of truth and delivered the proclamation of ultimate reality at the foot of the mountain of arrogance. Obama, the man is living the ideals of a ghost.

We all knew Obama was a failed doctrinarian. What we didn't know was the cause of his hatred of successful businesses. Now we know. It all makes perfect sense. And that's not even the half of it!

If you want to know, too, read the D'Sousa article linked above. IT IS BRILLIANT!

One of the nice things about providing this news amalgamation and opinion service for free is that we reach people who can't afford a service of this quality otherwise. We also know we have lots of opinion-makers and movers and shakers trust this web site. we are, in fact, the only web site of its type which isn't trying to sell you something, except, of course, our opinions.

So whenever you see something that looks like an ad, just remember, it's free. Now the person being benefitted by this gift probably ought to claim it as an in-kind contribution, but that's their problem, not ours.

I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of those of you who have made us so popular - we have over 2,000 regular readers, every day. About 1800 are right here, in the Palmetto State. But we also have readers in Iraq, NYC, LA, Chicago, and other places, too. Thank you, all. We're very, very grateful.

After last night's primaries, the Progressives are panicking. They are actually saying they can beat the angry-American-backed Tea Partiers and conservative Republicans. This may be what Carl Rove was talking about when he said to look to the Progressives for signs of Republican victory. May be. Maybe it's the collapsing Dollar and the ridiculous economic policies of the Progressives' Current Resident of the Whitehouse.

But none of this will mean anything if those who are beaten in the primaries do not fall in behind the winners. A divided Republican party will not help. It would be refreshing if all those incumbents who lost, chip in to make a victory come true. After all, it isn't supposed to be a career, anyway.

One word to the Progressives: re-run the videos of the winners. The rooms were filled with normal people. Some were tunky, others were ordinarily dressed - few ties and coats - few designer dresses. All, however, were attractive for their energy. These are the people to fear. These are the people who may turn you out. They are full of energy and righteous anger, and they may very well make the difference on November 2nd.

If you are like me, then it will not be enough for you to vote. Get a friend to go with you to the polls. VOTE ONE. BRING ONE.

Putting the genie back in the bottle. The Environmental Protection Agency has evolved into a monster. With powers far beyond those of even the courts, this agency of the federal government is ruining this country.

It's not the purpose of this article to argue that an agency which can protect a small fish while ruining an entire population of needed farmers needs to be put down. Rather, it is a plea to those in power to end it. But what would take its place? Something simple, I think.

It's not that people don't need to be warned and frauds need to be exposed, so let's have an organization which preserves freedom by informing the public and letting the states take care of prosecution. Similarly, DHEC should never be given police powers. Their job should always be that of informing. They can even plead, as they have, the case of prosecution against the bad guys. But information and recommendation is always preferable to an appointive body with police powers. This is why sheriffs and police chiefs should always be elected or, at least, be specifically obedient to a town or county council.

Information is powerful. And the EPA would return to the use of moral suasion, which is a much more ethical approach. It would also mean the eventual savings of tens of billions of dollars, as tens of thousands of workers would eventually be released.

The EPA can be redirected in its mission without firing anyone. And those who are no longer needed can be redirected or retired. By grandfathering, the entire agency can eventually be reduced to coordinating state information and national publication.

Oh, you can keep the EPA as is, but you are guaranteeing a dictatorship by bureaucracy. You are also guaranteeing bad science for the use of bad politics.

Sales are up because prices have risen, AND fallen. Contrary to Oglesbee and other pseudoeconomists, the price of anything that has to do with gasoline has gone up. This gives an impression that the economy is picking up. Au contraire, mon frère !   It is as false as the dawn caused by an atomic explosion. Worse, yet, the rise in actual sales were cause by retailers LOWERING prices to attract buyers, so THINGS got bought, but because of higher delivery prices - because of the rising price of gasoline - the profit margins, in most cases, were even less than expected, and in some cases, retailers just broke even. That's NOT good.

Another problem created by gasoline price increase is that we are getting closer to that level where price to pay exceeds ability to pay, plus ability to pay for other necessities. At $3.00 a gallon (3.50 - 3.75 in Yankee territory), people who must travel to work start taking money from anywhere to get to that work. The last time this happened, it effected people's ability to pay their house payments. That, and the Progressive-caused "Fannie-Mac Bubble," which, in turn, caused the last central bank panic and the current uber-recession, which is, oddly, being blamed on President Bush, who actually tried to stop it.

The final problem is that inventories are up. But not because of expectations of sales, but rather because of lack of sales, which in turn have been masked by the increase in cost, causing the increase in price, and the "other" seeming increases in sales.

September 14, 2010
Do you remember when things started going south for Bush? Yeah, me too. When he stopped teaching about conservatism. He really didn't need to teach, just preaching about it would have been enough. Alas. So by November of 2006, the country handed congress back to the Progressives, who once again, began to spend all the gains made by the Bush Republicans. Barney Frank outright lied about Fannie and Freddie being healthy and solvent, neither of which were true. LIED. Progressives are trying to say there is a Republican equivalency, but it just doesn't add up.

Simply put, the Progressives with their new-found control are responsible for the bank meltdown by allowing dangerous home loans to people who couldn't afford their loans. And by stonewalling the bad news, they opened american businesses up to an untenable and unsustainable barage of unsupported debt which could multipply into the trillions.

With the inauguration of Barack Obama, the hideous truth about a simple recession gone dirty was buried. The best play was to blame Bush.

Not evenshowing the wickedness of central banking, the Progs followed Bush into the nearly trillion dollar banks bail-out. But they were there, cheering.

Nope. This superrecession is all the Progressives fault, and has been since 2007. They've had 4 years to mess up America. And YOU have to be smart enough to catch them at it and throw it back in their faces.

1. Bank Bailout - combination of Bush and Dems
2. Barney Frank Said Fannie and Freddie were sound when he knew they werent - bubble. Demo by himself.
3. Dick Durbin looked the other way as the big banks went nuts - some Demo overhead.
4. Progressive Porculous bill. almost a trillion
5. Obamacare - nobody knows how many trillions it will really cost.

Remember these facts when the lying machine comes to town.

Bless their hearts! Newspapers are in a bad spot. They lost the immediacy contest to TV fifty years ago, when fast-develop film magnetic strip audio became popular. Now we have the internet and TV is starting to hurt. So much so, that free internet access is being restricted - you have to pay to listen if you don't have a radio or your local stations don't carry your team's radio programs. But that will change, too, as the media evolves to one of ultimate portability. The large majority of people will pay only so much, and no more.

So what?

Well, each group, TV, Radio, and Newspapers, use sports to pump up their peeps. This, unfortunately means that you, the audience, get a very slanted view of what's going on with your favorite teams.

Example: Furman beat Colgate. COLGATE!!! Was that the screamer headline across the state? Nope. When Carolina plays Furman this coming weekend, the Gamecocks will have their hands full, if Furman stays healthy. There are two headlines you haven't seen so far!

Example: In certain portions of the state, one would think Clemson had defeated Auburn, when they defeated PC 58-21, this weekend. As much as I revere the ancient school my upstate forbear helped found, its football team does well just to stay in their own league, much less the ACC. The only question there is, why the 21 points for PC? What does this say about Clemson's second tier defense? Let's hope the first-stringers stay healthy.

Example: In Columbia, where Carolina Football is a liturgy as much as a sport, and Spurrier is either a goat or a demi-god (either way, he would be revered in ancient Greek Theatre), the win against Georgia was huge, but there were other games with state consequence - like the entrance of Korn at quarterback for North Greenville U. Another story that got little or no press was the fact that the Gamecock's Lattimore and Jeffreys made a mediocre quarterback look much better than he actually is. Many of us are wondering when we will see the true freshman take over.

One other Example: The state's newspapers went to bed before the Tennessee-Oregon game was over. We had to go to the internet to find out Rocky Top got stomped into a gopher hole. Oregon was allowed to play dirty, but they should have been beaten by the Vols, whose head was definitely stuck somewhere other than the game for the last 30 minutes. It doesn't matter that the game was held up for hours by the Sturm und Drang Chicken Rule of the NCAA. But that's a discussion for another day.

September 12, 2010
The following was not written by Prof. David R. Kamerschen, Ph.D., Professor of Economics at the University of Georgia. That's his story, and he's sticking to it. I don't know him, so I don't know his economic proclivities. I'd like to think he could have written it. Maybe he'll write in. In any case, I remember hearing this story 30 years ago. But, here it is, again - fresh off the internet, but as old as the hills:

Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100 and If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. The fifth would pay $1. The sixth would pay $3. The seventh would pay $7. The eighth would pay $12. The ninth would pay $18. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.)

So, that's what they decided to do.

The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. "Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20." so drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected...They would still drink for free...But what about the other six men - the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his 'fair share?'...They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33...But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer..So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings). The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings). The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).

The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before...And the first four continued to drink for free...But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

"I only got a dollar out of the $20,"declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man," but he got $10!" "Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man. "I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I!" "That's true!!" shouted the seventh man. "Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!" "Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison. "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.

The next night the tenth man didn't show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn't have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

September 11, 2010
I was sleeping in on September 11th, 2001. I'd had a busy weekend, cutting commercials for my ad agency and was looking forward to working with a really neat, new client. At a little bit after 10, my wife woke me up with the news. She knew I would want to know, since I had been a TV news reporter for 20 years.

My first thought was that the people on the top floors of both towers were doomed. Sitting in the den, from the comfort of my special chair, it was all so easy to guess what would happen next - surely DC would get it. But I thought the President, or Congress, would be the target. Had the brave passengers on flight 93 not stopped the bloody plans of the Islamic Terrorists who had taken control of the cockpit, that might have been a reality we would be dealing with, today.

More than anyone, John Scott is, for me, the voice of 9/11. So calm, so amazingly in control - no blubbering Dan Rather or over-emotional "golly-gee" NBC Anchor - just the facts from a damn good reporter who was also a pilot. If he never does another notable thing in his career, he wins the prize for being the best on that day.

Those of us who watched Fox News Channel for this event did not get to see the horror of people jumping from the buildings' higher floors to escape the white-hot flames. But I did not know until yesterday that the Fox News videographer had turned off his camera after the second jumper. He said, in so many words, it was too obscene to continue.

As we watched the screen, I was surprised to feel myself growing angrier and angrier. Not the kind of anger that you get from missing a bus or hitting yourself with a hammer, but the slow determined anger of someone who wants revenge. Someone was going to pay. It was as if, instead of losing my objectivity, I began to see the world in a completely different, more directed way. But as surely as I sat there, the logic of making sure this would never happen again without a price came over me and I swore that, with what little influence I had, I would do as I could to make the way smooth for whoever I could.

I will never forget it. People in the towers, firefighters, police, military, almost 3000 people died that day in New York, DC, and a field in Pennsylvania. Since then, almost all of the Progressives, save a precious few, have tried to live as if it had never happened. They'll lie, when caught at it, but mostly they're already on tape, especially from when we went after Iraq. Who knows, they may yet snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. God knows, they're trying hard enough.

But there are days like today which scream at them from the graves of our brothers and sisters who died that day, or on a battlefield on other days, "September 11, 2001, changed everything. Everything." It is no wonder that they are deaf to even the living who speak against them, they have turned their ears from the voices of the dead for so long.

Fortunately, these traitors to the truth will not be with us for much longer, at least in positions of power. September leads, eventually to November. And we will have our country back. Weakened, yes. But ours, to make strong again.

Our dead are heroes, not pawns for the current cynical majority of political perverts.

On the Current Resident Of the Whitehouse's Presser, today: 1/4 fantasy, 1/3 lies, 1/6 pure BS, and 1/4 softballs. Nothing new. ..Or as we say in Round-O, "Same-o, same-o."

ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME ?!? Did you see what the uber-self-important North Carolina Cops are asking for?
ALL CITIZENS' DRUG PRESCRIPTION HISTORIES!!!!!!!

"OH NO!" said the morons in the NC House and Senate, "..those rules about prescriptions won't lead to any Nazi-like actions by law enforcement.." Really?

And don't kid yourself. South Carolina has the same setup. It will only take one more stupid law in order to let our cops do the same thing. Enough, Dammit!

I say we give our guys a chance to step back from the brink with rescinding drug laws. If they don't, wait two years and nominate your DOG for the State House or Senate!

Or you can vote for Daisycutter. Here's a picture of my Labrador Retriever who is smarter than ANY NC State Senator or House Member or NC Cop:

You know things are bad in Europe when Romania wants to tax witches. No Kidding. Fortune tellers, casters of spells, friends of cats are all on the schedule to get their income taxed. But don't feel too bad for the spellbinding ladies. They threatened to curse the parliament, and that august body withdrew the measure before passing it. This story would have had more legs had it happened closer to Halloween, however.

Do you know why so many Progressives hate Carl Rove? Because one of him can beat 30 of them. He actually did it a few years ago. He does it by getting his facts straight and by doing large universe polling (lotsa people in the survey). While even he admits that it's a little early, if his numbers hold up, say, for 30 more days, he says there may be as many as 90 Progressive House seats abdicating to Republicans.

This is astounding. Rove is as protective of his reputation as he is of his facts. For him to make this kind of early prediction means that he has seen something that the rest of us have missed. But there is a way to prove his numbers' genuineness. If he is uniformly put down by rule of thumb lefty bloggers as well as far left bloggers, then there is a pretty sure bet that his numbers are good, and that the Progressives are in for a death spiral. We shall see.

Kudos, again, to Joe Bastardi! He was right, again. And all the ecopornographers have readjusted their arctic ice evaluations. They NOW say that there was much more ice than was previously estimated. He's been saying all along that even if the ice amounts were accurate, new ice will be added this winter AND spring. Ahem..

Tracy Burns gets an A+. Besides being a actual "fox," she is one smart cookie. Currently, she's filling in for the Willis Report while Willis fills in for David Asman on the Fox Business Network ("If you don't have it, demand it!").

Today, she hit the carbon steel fastening device squarely on its impact surface. She pointed out that the Current Resident Of the Whitehouse once again has it all wrong with his "Stimulus 2" protocol. If you, as a small bidnez, need a loan, says she, you can't afford to spend on new stuff, for which his proposal allows tax write-offs. If we were in a tiny recession, as we were when he first took over (there's a difference between a recession and bank failure, by the way, but we shouldn't have bailed out the banks, either - we should have bailed out the depositors, instead), such a plan would have been great. But that was before the stupid Bank Bail-out and dumb Stimulus bills.

This is scary. The person who's supposed to be in charge of protecting the constitution has no idea what he is doing.

New Yorkers have been shown, once again, that if the law is your savior, you will die by the law. This poor shlimazl on Long Island got himself arrested by defending his own home which had 20 or more hoodlums - possibly even organized gang members - ON HIS LAWN! You gotta love a police department that can't tell the bad guys from the good guys. All because he had a legal AK-47 and fired warning shots (into the dirt, no less) to make the hoods go away. And the local DA is wicked enough to go along with it.

Anna Kornakova modeling the fully-loaded Mikhail Timofeevich Kalashnikov's Equalizer. Kalashnikov is also noted for saying, "Anything that is complex is not useful and anything that is useful is simple."   Several million Americans own the semi-automatic version of this simple, superior self-defense weapon.

One other thing: the police know there are 2,000 M13 gang members in their district. Really? Why aren't they in prison already? Or better yet, dead? The constitution allows for PEACEABLE ASSEMBLY, ONLY. M13 membership IS JUST CAUSE!

Apparently, on Long Island, guns don't kill people, the police let bad people kill people.

Republicans, Be Not Dumb! The Current Resident of the White House is going to put forward a bunch of really stupid ideas. Tea Partiers already know they are dumb. Republicans MUST, PUBLICLY, announce to the world that those Obama ideas are dumb and explain WHY they are dumb, while proposing something totally different. They MUST be HEARD to be saying these things by calling News Conferences - getting on the Network Newsers and arguing their points. Obama cannot be allowed to get away with the lie that Republicans only say no, the way he did this past Labor Day. It IS a lie. And He Lied when he said it. His ideas MUST BE REPEALED. NO IFS ANDS OR BEHINDS.

THIS IS THE TIME FOR REPUBLICANS TO GROW A SET.

This is also why people like Jim DeMint have no real opposition - because they have consistently called a shovel a shovel. This is not a time for getting along. This is a time of all-out war. Republicans MUST pay attention, and act accordingly.

Tasteless, silly people are everywhere - not in the majority, not even a lot, but enough to embarrass the rest of us. The idiot head of the Dove World Outreach Center in Florida, Dr. Terry Jones (Not the Monty Python Terry Jones, who actually DOES have a bona fide Doctorate - in Early English History and Literature) has asked people to burn a Q'uran on 9/11.

Until and unless Islam eschews the Taqiyya verses, which say it's OK to lie, I will never regard it as a "'Fair' Religion," as Lancelot Andrews says in his intro to the Rationale Upon Ye Book of Common Prayer (London, 1672). But I will NEVER, EVER burn any book. It is something a Progressive might do, but not an Eleutherian or a Conservative or even a Liberal. Ever. It's better to read the enemy's words and refute them, than burn his words so that none can know their wickedness. The temptation of ignorance is far more dangerous in its seductiveness than any seduction from knowledge can ever be. And just so, only the naive can assume The Almighty threw Adam and Eve out of the Garden for searching for knowledge.

Infrastructure is why we tax. But.. the CROTWH (Current Resident Of The White House) has proposed another piece of political poo. Again, he has proposed tens of billions more dollars which will go to buggy whip infrastructure. That's railroads and union-intensive states' projects.

Railroads are a joke. They are an economic fascist's delight, telling people when and where they can travel.. Trucks can move far more freight much more quickly AND efficiently AND geographically. And the argument about trucks wasting fuel is silly because of the union and ICC rules which cause massive fuel waste during train-standing. In fact, trains are NOT efficient. They are also exceptionally convenient targets for terrorists. They require several times more repair than highways and benefit only unions with those confiscatory retirement contracts which, by the way, are bankrupt thanks to immoral union planning.

Hermine, the latest tropical storm on this side of the continent, looks like it's going to hit Brownsville. what's really interesting is that the storm is generating a "flow" pattern which looks, for all the world, like a "new" gulf stream. Cloud and rain patterns have developed from just below Brownsville arcing around the Gulf, then across Florida where the panhandle meets the southern isthmus, then up the Georgia-Carolinas coast, and then out to sea.

First of all, let's pray Hermine remains a TS or lower. But after that, let's all ask the question, "Wasn't this pattern supposed to happen, only after the seas rose another 10ft?" You bet! But here it is, actually getting colder, worldwide, the ice caps are GROWING, from their 2007 lows, and projected to grow even more this next year. We were PROMISED by the Ecopornographers that such a weather pattern should only happen with the rising of the seas.

If I may, I'll quote from a song about bad education, which ironically fits the bad science of the freaks of ecology: "...just another brick in the wall."

UPDATE: The phenomenon went away as Hermine moved inland and northward. Go figure.

Sunday Talk Shows, what hoot! Republicans praying they'll have Tea Party support. Progressives just lying for any reason, totally zoned out, not understanding that Flyover America really doesn't want them, anymore. Clueless moderators and mostly hacked-out political commentators. Creepy Tim Kaine, Chairman of the DNC, trying out hubris on Fox News Sunday as if it were a new suit that hadn't been adjusted, yet, was possibly less preposterous than a light beer commercial. One would have to be a farmer to appreciate this much bovine detritus.

Took Clemson two quarters, but, they finally woke up and played football. The Parker - Palmer axis is quick. Very quick. Almost noone in the ACC has a combination this deadly. If I were a TIGER, I'd be patting Dabo on the back and looking forward to a great fall season.

And, of course, this means a hum-dinger of a Carolina-Clemson Game. Yeah, buddy!

September 3, 2010
South Carolina really has two quarterbacks! Just the way Spurrier likes it. To be a quarterback for the Football Coach, you have to be able to memorize and execute, not just plays, but contingencies. Now, the USC Football Coach has got a running shooting QB AND a thinking, passing QB.

Wouldn't you just know that six other Progressives are NOT going to be investigated by the ethics committee! Three Progressives who can't avoid being investigated and three Republicans have been "reported out," ie, they may not be investigated, but they were LOOKED at. Joe Wilson is one. The most thing wrong that Joe alledgedly did was buy some trinkets for some vets back home. 12 Dollar trinkets.

Remember, we warned that all those new "honesty rules" would come back to bite Progressives, too. Well, here it is. Too many rules, too complicated a scenario.

Ooooops! Another Liberal - this time an eco-freak - has gone postal. The ONLY person one should feel sorry for is the horribly embarrassed family of this deranged man. This is not to say that everyone in the ecology movement is crazy - a good conservative is a good conserver of nature that won't kill him first. But one always hears about the uber-conservative person with his guns and Bible going wacko, but it never seems to happen. You might be interested to know that the count is now 18 to 3 in favor of the liberal wackos going bonkers, since 1980. So, who's the real bozo on this bus?

Hurricane Earl is following a very familiar pattern.

Not Hurricane Hugo - This Time..

Before you count out a visit to the North Carolina Outer Islands, remember that Hazel came in on this pattern. I'm still going with a brush-by pattern, but if the counter-clockwise storm ducks under the weakening prevailing High, it could be directed right into the Crescent. And don't let anybody tell you that they KNOW what will happen. Weather is like economics - any complex system - nobody can predict it with 100% accuracy.

Saw this picture on NewsBusters.org.

Pretty much says it all as far as Obama's speech last night. The man is absolutely tone deaf and arrogant to a fault, even when he tries not to be. His so-called "jobs" ideas are trash and are fraught with wasted spending possibilities. His foreign policy is a joke. His understanding of the nation's economy is naïve at best.

The following is a rumor, only, but it's really big, if true. Yesterday's Conference Board consumer confidence numbers may be fake. We have two sources, both of whom refuse, adamantly, to be named, for fear of getting fired, that the numbers have been fudged by at least 0.4%. This may not seem like a lot, but in today's market, it's huge. One source also alleged that the surveyor for the Conference Board report, at one point, simply stopped calling and started filling in random numbers. Our staff and I hope this is not true. Not that the Confidence Report has ever really been spot-on - not enough data to really mean anything. But one thought has crossed my mind - What if George Soros, who is well known to be trying to corner the gold market, is driving the report through his influence with the Conference Board? We do know that he has been short selling the stock and bond markets on several levels. If true, we'll see him continue to sell into the rallies he's helping to cause. And remember, NONE of this market manipulation, if true, is illegal, and anybody who believes these surveys are doing so at their own risk.

Don't think it can't happen, The Hunt brothers tried it in the 70's with the silver market, but was submarined by new silver deposit discoveries.
